Parable of The Rich Fool (Luke 12:13-21)

Begin with a prayer asking God for help in understanding and applying His Word to your life. Then read the passage from Luke 12:13-21.

Investigate

  • What does verse 13 (and the earlier parts of chapter 12) tell us about this man’s concerns?

  • Why do you think Jesus refused to get involved (vv 14-15)?

  • What sins was the rich fool guilty of (vv 16-19)?

  • In Matthew 6:24 Jesus said, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” How does this apply towards verses 20 and 21?

Apply

  • When you consider the characters and tragedy of this story, how do you see yourself in it?

  • What are you convicted of and what do you need to repent of in order to make Jesus the greatest treasure in your life?

Discipleship is the process of growing in love for Jesus and His Church over the course of a lifetime demonstrated through obedience, perseverance, and submission.
