Begin with a prayer asking God for help in understanding and applying His Word to your life. Then read the passage from Psalm 51:1-5.

Transgression refers to trespassing past God’s boundaries. Sin refers to missing God’s standards. Iniquity refers to the inner “twistedness” of our sin nature. Why do you think David identified all three? Why is that significant?
David says he has only sinned against God (v 4). Do you agree with him? Why or why not?
Why would God be justified in whatever verdict he chose (v 4)?
How does verse 5 change our fundamental understanding of humanity?
What can you learn from David’s failure and pain?
What can you learn from David’s realization of his own nature?
