Begin with a prayer asking God for help in understanding and applying His Word to your life. Then read the passage from Haggai 1:1-15.

What do verses 1 through 4 tells us about the people’s priorities? What were their excuses?
What was the result of putting their own prosperity and their own agenda above God’s commands (vv 7-11)? How is that the same today? How is it different?
What encouragement do you find in verses 12 through 15?
Apply
What are the common excuses believers use today to justify their neglect of God?
How do we realign our priorities to put God first? What would that look like practically?
